What is Dance/Movement Therapy?
It is a type of holistic therapy that focuses on the whole person: the body, the mind, and the soul (the feeling part of us) by using movement and the body to nurture the connection of these three aspects. This works because when you change one of the three parts the other two will change as a result, so if you change the body, the mind and soul/emotions will change as well. It is a type of Expressive Arts Therapy and Psychotherapy, and it brings together healing and movement—psychology and art—science and creativity. It can mean many things and does not require dancing or even a comfort with moving. Even breathing is moving. For children it speaks their first language of movement, and for adults it helps them reconnect with the body to find support and insight. I am happy to give more information if you’re interested.
*As an LPCC I provide psychotherapy that brings in my training, credentials, and experience as a registered Dance/movement therapist.
